I’m always looking for a good side project, and my home office was in dire need of remodeling in order for me to have a better, more productive work space for my design projects. I wanted to create a design that was cohesive with my business and branding. To achieve this, I painted the entire room in a bright matte cyan and placed a large vinyl decal of the Gigawatt Graphics logo on the accent wall. The first steps of the project involved painting the room and then all of the furniture that would be placed throughout. To start, I began with a vintage record cabinet that I had picked up at a yard sale a few years ago. I’m a vinyl junkie and used to DJ back in my college days, so I knew I needed a lofi music nook in the new office. I spray painted the cabinet (and the rest of the furniture) a dark gunmetal gray to offset the bright blue walls. To finish the job, I enlisted the help of my daughter Annabelle, and together we paneled the sides of the cabinet with throwback cassette tapes. The tapes fit perfectly, and in the process, I was able to save some great old rock tapes from the trash heap, a definite win-win. Check out the progress:
